He is the leader of the DOA gang, which operates in coalition with Junji Kashiya's Blue Rose. Joey is incapable of feeling pain because of the drugs he takes to cure himself and because of this he will always attempt near-lethal acts, such as dodging a train that is coming into the station at the last second. He had a girlfriend named Yoko, who died tragically, and this memory only haunts him. Joey turns against the Oni-Baku because of a bet he made with Kashiya, participating in a motorcycle race against Onizuka, where he eventually falls and ends up in the sea. His brother rescues him and he seems to understand his mistakes and decides to return to the hospital for treatment.
He makes his appearance in Chapter 12 of Volume 02. As previously seen in GTO Shonan Junai Gumi where he was head of the Blue Roses, he continues to run the family's yakuza organization. He has great respect for Onizuka. He discovers the slave market along with Joei and Fumiya and together they inform Onizuka. He is always seen smoking. He is friends with Joey and Fumiya.
